WHY CATHEDRAL PREPARATORY SCHOOL?

Cathedral Preparatory School proudly boasts a long tradition of excellence in the spiritual and educational development of students from the tri-state region. The school’s mission is to develop men and women of vision in spirit, mind, and body and since our founding over 12,000 alumni have earned a Cathedral Prep diploma.

Graduates go on to study at the post-secondary institution that is best for them, from local universities through ivy leagues, and can be found in key positions throughout the community, the nation, and the world.

100% of our students are accepted to a four-year college each year and the Prep and Villa Class of 2022 earned over $30 million in academic and co-curricular scholarships- averaging over $186,000 per student. Students’ SAT scores are well above state and national averages each year and over 65% of graduates enroll in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics majors for collegiate study.

Cathedral Prep offers 21 different Advanced Placement courses and many college credit opportunities through the University of Pittsburgh and Gannon University. 40% of the senior class takes courses at Gannon University every year. The average class size is 17 with a student/teacher ratio of 13:1 and all students make prodigious use of the fully integrated one-to-one iPad program.

Beyond the classroom, student life is filled with opportunities for personal discovery and community involvement. Classmates respect a passionate actor, proficient musician, hard-working athlete, quick mind, or a fluent linguist. Prep students perform more than 50 arts performances every year throughout the city and collectively give over 15,000 hours of service to the community each year. Always loyal to our Catholic identity, Mass is offered to students daily and there are numerous retreats and special religious events. With over 30 clubs/organizations and 13 different sports all students have the opportunity to soar wherever they want to go.
