The Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) honors festival season continued with District 2/3/5 Orchestra! Two representatives from Cathedral Prep went to compete at this year’s District Orchestra Festival, hosted at Hickory High School, and to learn from Dr. Jungho Kim, associate professor of conducting and director of orchestras at the University of North Carolina – Greensboro. All students prepared and auditioned on a challenging folder of music from various eras and composers. The students were also able to meet and talk to composer Todd Goodman, who wrote one of the pieces performed on the concert. The top instrumentalists in each section earned the opportunity to advance to Region Orchestra through a competitive audition process at the festival. Regions this year is being held on March 21-23 at Butler High School.

Congratulations to Diego Ayala Mireles ’24 and James Burkett ’25, who performed an exceptionally difficult concert at a high-level last Friday. Congratulations to James Burkett ’25, who successfully auditioned and advanced on to Regional Orchestra. He is currently preparing another folder of music for his audition at the Region level with the possibility of moving on to the State Orchestra. We are all incredibly proud of these students’ hard work and dedication! 🎶
