We closed out last week by celebrating our awesome janitor, Thea! We wanted to make sure to thank him for all his hard work in keeping our school clean. We decorated his janitor closet, hung a banner, had the students create cards for him, and we even surprised him with his favorite food! Thank you, Thea, for keeping our school so clean and for your amazing upbeat attitude every day! You are so appreciated! #MTA #Family 🧡💙

Fifth, sixth, and seventh grade took a field trip to the Tom Ridge Environmental Center and Presque Isle State Park on Friday. Students explored the interactive exhibits, watched a film about the park, and climbed to the top of the observation tower. Students then spent the afternoon playing in the sand; some even put their feet in cold water! #MTA #FieldTrip 🏖

First grade spent the final Friday of the school year having a water day! They had water balloons and water blasters. Students teamed up against Ms. Szoszorek, but she got them back! Everyone said it was one of the best days this school year! #MTA #WaterDay 💧

Yesterday, fifth, sixth and seventh grade took a field trip to Asbury Woods! Students spent hours walking the trails and exploring nature in the woods. Students were challenged with a scavenger hunt to capture the best pictures of a creature, plant, tree, water, and rock. After eating lunch at the picnic pavilion, students played on the playground, pickleball, and sand volleyball. #MTA 🏞

Third and fourth grade went to Asbury Woods on Tuesday! Students got to spend the afternoon outside hiking, playing soccer, volleyball, and on the playground. While there, Miss. Nordlund handed over her cameras to the students and allowed them to be the photographers for the day! Students learned about how to properly hold and handle a camera, along with how to focus it, zoom, frame their photos, and how to look at things from a different angle! All the photos here were taken BY THE STUDENTS (except for a few group shots and while hiking)!! Students took turns passing the camera around between one another, encouraging one another on their shots, and giving critiques and advice on how to improve their next one! We are so proud of our young artists and future photographers. They truly do some amazing things each day! #MTA #Photography 📸

Today, we celebrated the graduation of our kindergarteners, Aloha-style! Students received a special award and gifts from Mrs. Vella and Mrs. Noble and celebrated their memorable first year at Mother Teresa Academy with their families! They also joined Mrs. Jauss and sang a few songs to their parents, including our very own MTA theme song! We are so proud of them and cannot wait to see what they accomplish during their time as Saints! We would also like to extend a special thank you to Valerios for providing the food for the event and to the Rosado Family for the centerpieces and cookies! #MTA #KindergartenGraduation #Luau 🌸🎓

This morning, Mrs. Noble and Ms. Szoszorek organized a surprise baby shower for Mrs. Vella! A thank you to Mrs. Piecuch for being our distraction and taking Mrs. Vella away for a couple of minutes so it could be set up. Mrs. Vella was surprised when she returned to her class! To add to Kindergarten’s “B” Day celebration, they ate bagels and brownies, played baby bingo, and Mrs. Vella opened her gifts. We are so excited for baby Vella! #MTA #Family 🍼

Yesterday was fun-filled Sports Day for our students!
Our Middle School students kicked off the day at the Hagerty Events Center to compete in field sports against one another. Each middle school homeroom teacher had a team! Mr. Conley was black, Ms. Rohm was red, Ms. Nolan was orange, and Mr. Cox was grey. Students competed in soccer, ultimate frisbee, and other sports.
Later on in the day, Elementary School students joined in on the fun at HFEC, while Middle School headed back to school. They played dodgeball, soccer, limbo, and had several relay races!
We were so blessed to have such a beautiful day to spend with our students having fun! #MTA #SportsDay⚽🏀👟

Our fifth graders were selected to participate in WQLN’s second annual Buckethead KIDZ bucket drumming program. They completed a curriculum to learn specific rhythm figures and patterns, how to read and write them on the musical staff, and how to improvise upon them. Last Tuesday, they gathered with hundreds of other aspiring student musicians on the pavilion grounds of WQLN to tap out the beat of the street! A professional band was on hand providing live music for the students to play along to. #MTA #BucketheadKIDZ 🥁

Over the past couple of months, first grade has spent time creating their published book, “All About MTA.” This idea and content came from the students! They learned how to interview, continue a conversation, and form questions. After interviewing each other, students interviewed MTA teachers. Once the interviews were complete, they had to use their best writing to complete the final copy. They sent it out, and finally got the hardcover book back! Everyone was very excited to see their hard work! #MTA 📚

As an exciting way to review for MAP assessments, middle school students participated in a Math Glow Day yesterday. During math class, students rotated between four stations, including tic-tac-toe, Connect Four, Jenga, and mystery cup. As students answered review questions correctly, they were able to take a turn of their game. They loved all the neon and glow throughout the room and were so engaged in the math questions! #MTA #MathGlowDay 🌟

It's UNANIMOUS! Kindergarten’s “U” day wins! They first made unicorn hats! Then, just when they thought they we were about to take a boring math test, a UNICORN CAME TO CLASS! They couldn’t believe it was Ms. Nolan! They absolutely loved the unicorn! They also read the book “Unicorn Day” and wrote how they were UNIQUE (their new vocabulary word) like a unicorn.
