Cathedral Prep’s 8th Grade Honors Program students were recognized with a special breakfast ceremony this morning! Fr. Mike DeMartinis gave a blessing, and the students heard from President Kevin Smith and Vice President of Academics and Students Affairs Will Pituch ’01VMA. Then they received their Honors Program pin and Cathedral Prep school garment. The program includes about 60 students from several schools across Erie County. Cathedral Prep Athletics Roundup for Tuesday, October 3: • Girls volleyball stayed hot, sweeping their doubleheader against General McLane. Varsity won 3-0 (27-25, 25-19, 25-17). Kaylin Laird had 10 kills. Coco Speros had seven kills, while Carolina Krahe had five. Mackenzie Moore had seven digs. Kamryn Resurreccion finished with 24 assists and seven digs. JVs won 2-0 (25-22, 25-18). 🏐 • Girls tennis picked up a 5-0 win over Warren. The Ramblers won all matches in straight sets. Anna Poranski, Finleigh Handzel and Paige Patsy won in singles. Sophia Glance/Margaret Prichard won in doubles, as did Lilli Beuchert/Sofia Falvo. 🎾 • Varsity hockey won their league opener over Seneca Valley, 1-0. Mathius Sprickman had the lone goal, and Tanner Ball made 20 saves in the shutout. 🏒 • Boys soccer swept Bradford. Varsity shutout the Owls, 13-0. Noah Handzel had four goals and four assists. Dylan Danch scored five times, while Juan Pablo Dogre Milet had a pair of goals. JVs picked up a 6-0 shutout.⚽ • In boys golf, Cooper Wierzchowski carded a two-day score of 150 to finish second in the District 10 individual golf tournament, qualifying for states. Cathedral Prep Weekend Athletics Roundup: • Girls cross country placed fourth in the Bob Bradley Premier Race at the McQuaid Jesuit Invitational in Rochester, NY. The Ramblers were led by Anne-Catherine Brown’s ninth place finish in 17:56. Lauren Raimy took 24th, while Makayla Stutts, Allison Bender and Fina Bannister finished in 37th through 39th place, respectively. JVs finished third in their race. Lilly Pinzok finished fifth overall, while Sophia Swanseger took eighth. Virginia Bowes took 12th. 👟 • Boys cross country placed 10th at the McQuaid Jesuit Invitational. James Burkett placed 23rd to lead the way. Noah Lata took 39th, while Nick Kupniewski finished 75th. 👟 • Boys water polo took part in the second weekend of the Erie Challenge, finishing 1-1. They defeated Reading, 10-9, before falling to Souderton, 14-11. Callum Snider-Mills led the way with 11 goals. Owen Carson finished with five goals, while Colin Troutman had three. Drew Brown scored a pair, while Dan Kubiak made 13 combined saves in net. 🤽‍♂️ • Girls water polo also finished 1-1 in the Erie Challenge. They picked up a win over Reading, 10-2, before also losing a close one to Souderton, 12-10. Mia Shaughnessy scored 10 goals on the weekend. McKenzie DiPlacido finished with five goals, while Megan Cardella had three. Jaslene Cage and Savannah Wierzchowski also scored. Brianne Ryan made 25 goals in net over the weekend. 🤽‍♀️ • Girls JV volleyball won their tournament at the Hagerty Family Events Center. The Ramblers had two teams playing on the day, along with Eisenhower, Erie High, Girard and Mercyhurst Prep. Prep-2 finished 0-2-2 on the day, falling to Mercyhurst Prep and Eisenhower before tying Erie High and Girard in pool play. Prep-1 won the tournament, 2-0, over Eisenhower after earning four pool play 2-0 victories over Erie High, Girard, Mercyhurst Prep and Prep-2. 🏐 • Football was swept by McDowell over the weekend. The Ramblers were led by Cooper Wierzchowski's medalist score of 73. ⛳ • Boys soccer picked up a sweep over Meadville. Varsity shutout the Bulldogs, 11-0, for a Region victory. Noah Handzel had a hat trick. Brandon Lin scored a pair, while James DiSanza, Dylan Danch, Cam Dunbar, Max Johnson, Andrew Spitzer and Tyler Chermack all scored. Chermack and Jordan Moye shared the shutout in net. JVs picked up a 3-0 victory. Dunbar, Ethan Cain and Spitzer scored for the Ramblers. Congratulations to Jayden McBride ‘24. She has verbally committed to a full Division I basketball scholarship in the Big East Conference to Georgetown University. A four-year varsity player and three-year starter, McBride was tabbed 1st Team All-State as a junior. She averaged 16.7 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.3 steals per game last season. GECAC’s Karen Hund stopped by campus last Friday to share a bit about the work of GECAC. She also picked up a check from the proceeds from our first dress down of the year, which will help them buy almost 100 winter coats for their upcoming winter clothing event! Proceeds were also sent to the SSJ Neighborhood Network to help restock their food pantry. #Prep #Service #Community

Cathedral Prep Weekend Athletics Roundup: • Boys soccer finished 1-1 on their trip to Kentucky. First, they picked up a 1-0 victory over nationally ranked Frederick Douglass (KY). They would fall to nationally ranked St. Xavier (KY), 2-0. ⚽ • Girls varsity cross country finished second in the PIAA Foundation Meet at Hershey. Anne-Catherine Brown finished ninth overall, while Lauren Raimy took 13th. Fina Bannister finished 20th. Allison Bender finished 22nd, while Caitlin Dugan finished 30th. Rue Burkett took 42nd, while Grace Barrett was 45th. JVs also finished second. Makayla Stutts was second overall. Reagan Johnston was third, while Sarah Teed finished eighth. Lilly Pinzok took 10th. The fell to Saegertown, 9-25, before getting wins over Corry, 25-18, and General McLane, 25-18. After finishing pool play, they took on Corry after the re-pool. They fell to the beavers in straight sets, 2-0. They would split with Greenville, 1-1, before dropping their match to Mercyhurst Prep, 2-0. They were awarded the top seed in the silver bracket after pool play, and took down Erie High, 2-0, before sweeping Girard, 2-0, to win their bracket. 🏐 • Football faced off against Clarkson North (ONT) this weekend. Varsity dropped their matchup, 27-13. Dajoure Hollingsworth had the big day for the Ramblers, rushing for 255 yards and two touchdowns. Collin Harris ‘24 earned National Merit Scholarship Program Commended Student recognition from the College Board for his score on the Pre-SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT) in 2022. The PSAT/NMSQT Exam is taken annually by approximately 1.3 million high school juniors in the United States. Collin scored in roughly the top 2% of test takers!
