Mike DeMartinis gave a blessing, and the students heard from President Kevin Smith and Vice President of Academics and Students Affairs Will Pituch ’01VMA. Then they received their Honors Program pin and Cathedral Prep school garment. The program includes about 60 students from several schools across Erie County. Kaylin Laird had 10 kills. Coco Speros had seven kills, while Carolina Krahe had five. Mackenzie Moore had seven digs. Kamryn Resurreccion finished with 24 assists and seven digs. Cathedral Prep Weekend Athletics Roundup: • Girls cross country placed fourth in the Bob Bradley Premier Race at the McQuaid Jesuit Invitational in Rochester, NY. The Ramblers were led by Anne-Catherine Brown’s ninth place finish in 17:56. Lauren Raimy took 24th, while Makayla Stutts, Allison Bender and Fina Bannister finished in 37th through 39th place, respectively. JVs finished third in their race. Lilly Pinzok finished fifth overall, while Sophia Swanseger took eighth. Virginia Bowes took 12th. 👟 • Boys cross country placed 10th at the McQuaid Jesuit Invitational. James Burkett placed 23rd to lead the way. Noah Lata took 39th, while Nick Kupniewski finished 75th. 👟 • Boys water polo took part in the second weekend of the Erie Challenge, finishing 1-1. Prep-1 won the tournament, 2-0, over Eisenhower after earning four pool play 2-0 victories over Erie High, Girard, Mercyhurst Prep and Prep-2. 🏐 • Football was swept by McDowell over the weekend. The Ramblers were led by Cooper Wierzchowski's medalist score of 73. ⛳ • Boys soccer picked up a sweep over Meadville. Varsity shutout the Bulldogs, 11-0, for a Region victory. Noah Handzel had a hat trick. Brandon Lin scored a pair, while James DiSanza, Dylan Danch, Cam Dunbar, Max Johnson, Andrew Spitzer and Tyler Chermack all scored. Chermack and Jordan Moye shared the shutout in net. JVs picked up a 3-0 victory. Dunbar, Ethan Cain and Spitzer scored for the Ramblers. Congratulations to Jayden McBride ‘24. She has verbally committed to a full Division I basketball scholarship in the Big East Conference to Georgetown University. A four-year varsity player and three-year starter, McBride was tabbed 1st Team All-State as a junior. She averaged 16.7 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.3 steals per game last season. She also picked up a check from the proceeds from our first dress down of the year, which will help them buy almost 100 winter coats for their upcoming winter clothing event! They would fall to nationally ranked St. Xavier (KY), 2-0. ⚽ • Girls varsity cross country finished second in the PIAA Foundation Meet at Hershey. Anne-Catherine Brown finished ninth overall, while Lauren Raimy took 13th. Fina Bannister finished 20th. Allison Bender finished 22nd, while Caitlin Dugan finished 30th. They fell to the beavers in straight sets, 2-0. They would split with Greenville, 1-1, before dropping their match to Mercyhurst Prep, 2-0. They were awarded the top seed in the silver bracket after pool play, and took down Erie High, 2-0, before sweeping Girard, 2-0, to win their bracket. 🏐 • Football faced off against Clarkson North (ONT) this weekend. Varsity dropped their matchup, 27-13. Dajoure Hollingsworth had the big day for the Ramblers, rushing for 255 yards and two touchdowns. Collin Harris ‘24 earned National Merit Scholarship Program Commended Student recognition from the College Board for his score on the Pre-SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT) in 2022. The PSAT/NMSQT Exam is taken annually by approximately 1.3 million high school juniors in the United States. Collin scored in roughly the top 2% of test takers!
