Cathedral Prep Weekend Athletics Roundup:
• Football finished 2-1 on the weekend, including a sweep of St. Francis (NY). Varsity battled to a six-overtime victory, 78-72, over the Red Raiders. Luke Costello hit Joe Himes for the game-winning touchdown. Costello had four touchdowns through the air, connecting with Himes on two of them, and a rushing touchdown. Max Spence and Griffin Potts each had receiving touchdowns. On the ground, Dajoure Hollingsworth finished with 248 yards and four touchdowns. Suhtaun Lewis ran for 91 yards and two scores. JVs earned a comeback win, 14-13. Davin Friedman connected with Joey Bernatowicz for s touchdown, while KJ Williams ran one in. Freshmen fell to St. Ed’s (OH), 10-0. 🏈
• Girls soccer swept St. Joseph Academy (OH) in a doubleheader. Varsity defeated the Jaguars in overtime, 3-2, after Olivia Dixon scored her third goal of the game. Callie Cacchione had a pair of assists. JVs picked up a 1-0 shutout. Kate Peterson scored the deciding goal. ⚽
• Girls water polo hosted the Erie Challenge. The Ramblers fell to Wilson, 10-1, and Pennridge, 14-5. Savannah Wierzchowski had three goals for the Ramblers, while Mia Shaughnessy had two. McKenzie DiPlacido had the other tally. 🤽♀️
• Boys water polo also competed in the Erie Challenge this weekend at the Hallman Aquatics Center. They finished 1-1. They fell to Wilson, 14-8, before besting Pennridge, 17-13. Callum Snider-Mills had another huge day with 13 goals for the Ramblers. Drew Brown totaled seven. Colin Troutman and Brady Palmer each had a pair of goals. Owen Carson also scored. 🤽♂️
• Boys soccer swept Canisius (NY). Varsity picked up a 3-0 shutout over the Crusaders. Noah Handzel, Kwame Anim-Somuah and Luke Trocki scored for the Ramblers. Tyler Chermack and Jordan Moye combined for the shutout in goal. JVs picked up a 1-0 victory. Cam Dunbar scored the lone goal, while Moye got the shutout. ⚽
• Girls golf finished ninth out of 18 teams at the McDowell Invitational. Lindsay Armanini and Claire Williams had the low scores for the Ramblers on the weekend, each shooting a combined 175. They led Prep’s individual scoring on day one, while Cece Morgan’s 87 led day two. ⛳
• Boys golf took part in the Midwest Classic at The Country Club of Meadville. The Ramblers finished 12th overall. Cooper Wierzchowski led the way, tying for 13th with his combined score of 152. Connor Laird shot combined 161. ⛳

• Girls tennis stayed perfect in the Region with a 5-0 win over Warren. Anna Poranski, Paige Patsy and Sophia Glance won in singles. In doubles, the tandems of Katie Kuhar/Margaret Prichard and Lilli Beuchert/Sofia Falvo won. 🎾
• Girls varsity soccer picked up a huge win over then undefeated Fairview, 2-1. Olivia Dixon scored both goals for the Ramblers. ⚽
• Boys golf finished fourth in their Region mega-match at Whispering Woods. Connor Laird finished third overallwith his 78 to lead the Ramblers. Cooper Wierzchowski shot an 82. ⛳
• Girls volleyball was swept by Fort Leboeuf. Varsity fell to the Bison in straight sets, 3-0. Kaylin Laird had five kills. Olivia Hutchinson finished with eight kills. Mackenzie Moore had five digs, while Kamryn Resurreccion finished with 21 assists and six digs. JVs dropped their match, 2-0. 🏐

• Girls tennis earned a big Region win at Fairview, 3-2. Paige Patsy won in straight sets in singles. In doubles, Sophia Glance/Margaret Prichard won in straight sets, as did Lilli Beuchert/Sofia Falvo. 🎾
• Girls volleyball swept Erie High in their doubleheader. Varsity picked up their first victory of the season. They beat the Royals, 3-0. Kaylin Laird had nine kills. Coco Speros had 10 kills and seven aces. Olivia Hutchinson had eight kills, while Ava Blanchard had five aces. Mackenzie Moore had eight digs, while Kamryn Resurreccion added 27 assists. JVs also picked up a straight set victory, 2-0. 🏐
• Boys soccer swept Bradford. Varsity defeated the Owls, 8-1. Noah Handzel scored five times for the Ramblers. Max Johnson, Juan Pablo Dogre Milet and Brandon Lin all scored. Dylan Danch had four assists in the victory. The JVs picked up a 5-0 win. Andrew Spitzer had three goals. Cam Dunbar and Caleb Frederick also scored. • Girls cross country picked up a Region victory over Meadville, 20-43. Lauren Raimy took second, while Anne-Catherine Brown, Allison Bender, Grace Barrett and Caitlin Dugan finished third-sixth, respectively. Makayla Stutts took seventh. Reagan Johnston took eighth. 👟
• Boys cross country also picked up a Region victory over Meadville, 22-33. James Burkett finished first overall to lead the way. Noah Lata finished third, while Jeremai Pruzenski took fifth. Rio Alejandro finished sixth. Nick Kupniewski placed seventh. 👟

Anne-Catherine Brown led the way with a second-place finish, which Lauren Raimy and Allison Bender followed to take third and fourth place, respectively. Rue Burkett took 22nd, while Caitlin Dugan finished 23rd. Grace Barrett finished 25th. 👟
• Boys cross country also took part in the Pat Ritchie Invitational. They finished eighth out of 17 teams. James Burkett led the way with 17th place finish. 👟
• Girls tennis swept McDowell, 5-0, in round one of the rivalry matchup. Anna Poranski, Finleigh Handzel and Paige Patsy took singles. The tandems of Sophia Glance/Margaret Prichard and Lilli Beuchert/Sofia Falvo took doubles. 🎾
• Girls soccer picked up a sweep over Warren. Varsity bested the Dragons, 11-2, behind hat tricks from Callie Cacchione and Olvia Dixon. Kayley McCall and CC Cacchione each had a pair of goals, while Shelby Abogunde also scored. JVs picked up an 8-0 win. Abogunde and Maeve Melody each scored twice. Kate Peterson, Brooklyn DiRaimo, Giselle Hiner and Jasiyah Slupski also scored for the Ramblers. ⚽
• Girls water polo split their games in the Tiger Classic at North Allegheny. They fell to Governor Mifflin, 13-4, before picking up a 10-8 victory over Cumberland Valley. Mia Shaughnessy and McKenzie DiPlacido finished with five goals apiece on the weekend. Jaslene Cage finished with four goals. 🤽♀️
• Boys water polo competed in the Tiger Classic. They fell to Governor Mifflin, 16-15, in a shootout at North Allegheny, then lost to Cumberland Valley, 17-9. Callum Snider-Mills carried the offense with 15 total goals. Owen Carson finished with four goals. Brady Palmer and Drew Brown each scored a pair, while Colin Troutman also scored. 🤽♂️
• Boys soccer took on Lake Catholic (OH) in a doubleheader. Varsity fell to the Cougars, 6-0, while JV played to a 0-0 tie. ⚽
• JV girls volleyball took part in the Magnificat Quad. They battled to straight set losses, 2-0, TO St. Joseph Academy (OH), Padua (OH) and the hosts. 🏐
• Freshmen football took on Oil City. They fell to the Oilers, 28-14. 🏈
AFJROTC cadets participated in their retreat at WLD Ranch yesterday. Cadets worked on leadership skills and different tasks to put those skills into practice. #Prep #AFJROTC

Dr. Dan Pierce, a microbiologist from the University of Richmond, met with senior MedPath students via Zoom to discuss a wide range of topics. Students learned about his most recent research with plant tumors and how it correlates with the latest in oncology. Dr. Pierce had great advice on the application process and pre-requisites for medical school, study habits, and how to best approach a professor about undergraduate research. AP Seminar students worked through puzzles reviewing the different kinds of plagiarism and looking at both good and bad examples of paraphrasing in class. The correct answers gave them access to the combination for one of four locks. Kaylin Laird ’24, Sophia Glance ’25, and Declan Toohey ’25 finished first, but their classmates were not far behind! Cathedral Prep Holiday Weekend Athletics Roundup:
• Football picked up a pair of victories over the weekend. Varsity had a record-setting day from Dajoure Hollingsworth on Saturday. His 332 yards rushing against Canisius is the fourth highest single-game total in school history and led his team to a 47-36 victory over the Crusaders. His five total touchdowns (four rushing, one receiving) was also just one off the Rambler record. Luke Costello threw for a pair of scores while also rushing for 69 yards as the Ramblers gobbled up 400 yards on the ground. Freshmen football also picked up their first victory of the season, 32-0, over Lakeview. 🏈
• Girls cross country kicked off their season by taking first in the Marty Uher Invitational at Cal U of PA. Anne-Catherine Brown placed second overall. Lauren Raimy finished fourth, while Allison Bender took 12th. Fina Bannister took 14th, Caitlin Dugan 17th, Grace Barrett 19th, Rue Burkett 22nd and Reagan Johnston was 38th. 👟

• Boys soccer kicked off their season. Varsity finished 1-1 over the weekend. They began with a 5-0 shutout of Brecksville-Broadview (OH). Noah Handzel had a hat trick. Max Johnson and Cam Dunbar also found the mesh. Tyler Chermack had the shutout in goal. They would fall in a tough battle with Western Reserve (OH), 3-2. Kwame Anim-Somuah had both goals. JVs picked up a 2-1 victory over Brecksville-Broadview (OH), 2-1, behind goals from Andrew Spitzer and Ethan Cain. ⚽
• Girls soccer competed in the Lopes Cup at Avonworth. They beat the hosts, 2-1 (4-3 in a shootout). Olivia Dixon scored in regulation. They fell in the championship game to Bethel Park, 3-2. Dixon and Shelby Abogunde scored for the Ramblers. ⚽
• Boys cross country competed at the Rocket Invitational in Titusville. James Burkett was a medalist, finishing 13th out of 223 runners. Noah Lata and Nick Kupniewski posted strong finishes for the Ramblers, finished 31st and 34th, respectively. 👟

A few weeks ago, four Prep show choir students had the opportunity to participate in the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Pennsylvania State Honors Choir, which was a part of the ACDA state convention. These students were four of 154 choir members who came from 25 of the top public and private high schools in Pennsylvania, as well as college students and their music teachers. This year’s state honors choir was hosted at Messiah University and was led by guest conductor Dr. Andrea Ramsey. Pieces performed in their amazing concert hall were composed by Dr. Ramsey, as well as Dr. Anthony Tracek-King, who also had a chance to work with the State Honors Choir. One of the five pieces performed was the world premiere of the composition, and winner of the 2023 ACDA-PA Composition Competition by Maira Myers, who had the chance to meet the choir members as well. The honors choir also participated in a conducting workshop with young choir directors as part of the experience, being able to experience Dr. Ramsey and Dr. Tracek-King teach how to conduct a choir. • Girls volleyball dropped their doubleheader to Harbor Creek. In a five-set battle, the Ramblers fell to the Huskies, 3-2. Kaylin Laird had 10 kills and nine digs. Colette Speros had nine kills. Olivia Hutchinson had 15 kills and seven blocks. Mackenzie Moore had 12 digs, while Kamyrn Resurreccion finished with 36 assists. JVs lost in three sets, 2-1. 🏐
• JV football picked up their first victory of the season, besting Canisius (NY), 42-0. Davin Friedman threw a pair of touchdowns. Mohammed Al-Hchaimi led the way on the ground for the Ramblers with a pair of touchdowns, while Roman Hamm had a 45-yard interception for a score. 🏈
• LATE WEDNESDAY SCORE: JV boys soccer picked up a victory in their first game of the season. They bested North East, 6-1, behind a hat trick from Cam Dunbar. Ethan Cain scored a pair of goals, while Andrew Spitzer added the other tally. ⚽
